Greene County Board of Education Adopts New Policy for Student Code of Dress -Grades K-12

The new student dress code policy for 2008-2009 was adopted Monday, April 26, 2008. Highlights of the policy include:
  • All collared shirts must be white, navy blue, royal blue or red. Each school will select two additional colors.
  • Pants or skirts must be khaki, black, or navy blue.
  • No jeans or courdory pants will be allowed.
  • Pendants, medallions or adornments are not allowed.

CONGRATULATIONS, ELIAS ADEE!
      
ELIAS RECEIVED HONORABLE MENTION AT THE NC STATE MATH COMPETITION.  ELIAS IS A SECOND GRADER AT SNOW HILL PRIMARY!

Mrs. Paula Turner, West Greene assistant and student intern, was selected as ECU'S Outstanding Special Education Intern.
Mrs. Turner will receive her award during graduation on May 9, 2008.


CONGRATULATIONS, FCCLA!

The GCHS FCCLA Club just returned from State Competition carrying three medals:

John Anderson received a GOLD Medal for Create-A-Meal
EJ Fleming, DeMarcus Artis, & Dominique Hines won a SILVER medal for Illustrated Talk
Jonathan Jones was awarded a BRONZE medal for Focus on Children


In addition to our Competition winners, Shaniqua Evans was elected as a NCFCCLA State Officer-- Vice President of Public Relations.


Hats off to All Students!

Snow Hill Primary and West Greene Elementary Schools Honored by Visit from
Betty Debnam Hunt


Betty Debnam Hunt, creator and long time guiding spirit of THE MINI PAGE, visited both Snow Hill Primary and West Greene Elementary recently. While there, she generously donated two copies of A KIDS GUIDE TO THE WHITE HOUSE to each media center. Ms. Debnam Hunt is also the author of this book.

We were pleased to have Ms. Debnam Hunt visit us and were delighted to share our schools with her!

GCMS POETRY CONTEST WINNERS!
Almost 20 Greene County Middle School students recently participated in the Greene County Child Abuse Prevention Poetry Contest.
  • The first place winner was 6th grade student, Savannah Mooring. For winning, Savannah’s family received tickets to a Kinston Indian’s game, where she will throw out the first pitch, a $50 gifcard to Colonial Mall, and will have the opportunity to read her poem at a candlelight vigil held at the Greene County Courthouse on April 22nd in memory of those children killed by child abuse.
  • The second place winner was 6th grade student, Ashlyn Doyle. Ashlynn won a $25 giftcard to Colonial Mall and will also have the opportunity to read her poem at the vigil. Both students are in Mrs. Noble’s homebase.
The judges were so impressed with the poems, they added two honorable mentions. 7th grade students, Kadijah Varcadipane and Marcus Alston, both of Mrs. White’s homebase, received 2 tickets each to attend a Kinston Indian’’s ballgame.

CONGRATULATIONS and thanks to the students and teachers who participated!

Greene Central HOSA Club Wins at State Competition

For the first time, the Greene Central High School HOSA Club has state winners who will advance to national competition in Dallas, Texas in June.

1st Place - Public Service Announcement team - Jayson Fostanes, Brittany Foxworth, Caitlin Walston, Kristen Tyson and Sonjay Williams

3rd place - Biotechnology - Kayla Hester

Abel Real (Prepared Speech), Maria Mendez (Home Health Aide), Danielle Dillane (Medical Photography) all were in the top 10!

The club members also brought home a Red Cross Award for their Blood Drives, a Gold Star Chapter Award and Gold Star Advisor Award.

Abel Real received a $100 scholarship from the NC Health Occupations Teachers' Association.
